SEC Faculty: John W. Berry

SECJohn W. Berry is an Associate Regional Director for Enforcement in the SEC’s Los Angeles Regional Office. Mr. Berry joined the SEC in late 2011, coming from private practice in New York, where he was a partner at Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld, LLP, focusing on complex commercial, securities and bankruptcy litigation.  Mr. Berry became Associate Regional Director for the SEC’s Los Angeles office in 2016 and, in that role, oversees the investigative and litigation Enforcement Division staff for the office. 

Before becoming Associate Regional Director, Mr. Berry served as the office’s Regional Trial Counsel and oversaw the SEC attorneys litigating the enforcement actions brought by the office in district court and before administrative judges.  He has personally been involved in a number of cases, including acting as lead counsel in a three-week jury trial involving allegations of $130 million in insider trading.  Mr. Berry received his undergraduate degree in engineering from Duke University, and his J.D./M.B.A. from the University of Virginia.
